Magnetic Silencing Type 6 Range Repairs
Norfolk, VA
Contract Value: $1,488,744
Duration: 150 Days
Project Manager: Chris Sheets

This project consists of a number of underwater activities in order to ensure successful repairs to the range.  First we will perform a dive survey of the underwater array to gain familiarization with the existing conditions which are 800' long and 40' wide, located within the Entrance Reach Channel West of to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. The depth of water ranges from 40 to 60 feet deep.  Next PMI will remove the damaged underwater electromagnetic triaxial (EMT) sensors and associated cable after which new EMT sensors, magnetometer instruments and associated cables will be installed to reach the data concentrator shed approximately 2180 feet away.  The next step is the placement of 3,000 cubic yards of non magnetic gravel over the instrument array; followed by the placement of 9" thick 8'x20' articulated concrete matting over the newly laid and existing cables from the array to the data concentrator approximately 2180 away.
