Salvage of Sunken U725 Barge
Puerto Nuevo Channel

After the successful completion of the “Barge Allen D” salvage
in the same vicinity as the sunken “U725” barge, Precon
Marine, Inc. was contracted by Liberty Mutual Insurance
Company to remove the barge section from the Puerto Nuevo Channel.
Precon Marine mobilized a crane barge equipped with two 150-ton mobile cranes to remove the approximately 30’ x 60’ section of the U725 Barge. After divers rigged the underwater portion of the submerged barge section, the two barge cranes lifted the barge and deposited it onto a dump scow. Utilizing a push boat, the dump scow was transported up river to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers waste site and offloaded with a 150-ton mobile crane.
To complete the project, a commercial dive team performed an underwater inspection to verify no damage was sustained to an underwater pipeline.
