PRECON
CONSTRUCTION COMPANY Norfolk International Terminals is home to the world’s largest container cranes. Phase II, Stage 1 of the Backlands Reconstruction Project includes the demolition and construction of approximately 48 acres of container terminal storage yard at the north end of the South Terminal at NIT and an additional 10 acres where utility upgrades and pavement improvements will be made. This will allow the Virginia Port Authority to continue to upgrade the load capacity of NIT South to accommodate straddle carrier operations, which will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve capacity to handle more containers from the larger vessels that are calling at the port. This $50 Million project is the first
of several stages necessary to completely renovate the south container yard of Norfolk International
Terminals, a 150-acre container yard. Precon Marine, Inc.
has been contracted to install the sheet pile portion of the retaining wall; 1560 linear feet
of new timber piles; PZ-27 marine steel sheet piling, including the installation of a 60”
CMP Pipe , bedding stone and rip rap; and 3000 linear feet of land side sheet piling for the
trunk line.
