Dolphin Repairs
Jamestown Ferry - Glasshouse Point Wharf

Precon Marine, Inc. mobilized in April 2003 to replace and upgrade the ferry dolphins at the Glasshouse Point Wharf Ferry Facility in James City County, Virginia. The project involves replacement of four existing 10-foot diameter timber pile head dolphins with three steel sheet pile head dolphins (filled with stone and concrete) of approximately 30 feet diameter. The project also involves strengthening of three existing 15.5-foot timber pile end dolphins (filled wit stone and concrete) by encapsulating with steel sheet pile of an approximate diameter of 22 feet and filling annular void with stone and/or concrete. New plumb piles will be driven at each transfer bridge lift platform as well in order to accommodate new head dolphins. Cell fenders will be installed for the purpose of resisting ferry impact. Following removal of the existing timber pile head dolphins, approximately 1,999 cubic yards of fill material will be discharged below the mean low tide elevation to three steel sheet pile cells. Approximately 52.3 cubic yards of material will be dredged two feet below the mudline within the proposed head dolphin.

The project is scheduled to be complete in July 2004.
